Personal Statement

I am currently attending Blackburn college in which I enrolled in the Foundation Art & Design course. I thoroughly enjoy participating in the course as it offers various pathways however my preferred pathway is Photography. At the moment I am on course to achieve a high grade so I have a chance of getting a successful career.

By choosing this course I wanted to explore and develop my creative potential and am excited by the range of skills I can acquire during the study of the course. Similarly, I am experiencing a whole array of media and methodology.

My work experience took place at Bolton University in the photographic department; I worked with the head of the department and the photographic technician. I took part in the photographic course which involved taking pictures using a film camera.  I would then go into the dark room to process. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bolton University; I learnt a lot from being there, for example, how to take the right picture, how to get the lighting correct and much more. My experiences at Bolton have fired my interest in pursuing photography in this FAD course and even as a career. By doing this I have shown inter personal skills with the team I was working with, photographic skills that I trained in whilst my time at the university, I had to be organised and punctual. There were many responsibilities involved in some of the tasks that I had to full fill.

My life outside college heavily involves sports, I am a very out going person and like to gain skills in working together and leadership qualities. Because of my commitment to various teams I am getting lots of practice with improving and developing my organization skills. I usually have a lot of work to do outside of college so I have to organise my time well so I can manage to enjoy the sports I do and be able to get my work completed. I have two part time jobs one of which is a Lifeguard and the other is a Carer. Both of these roles hold huge amounts of responsibility and competence. The activities I do and enjoy require a lot of self motivation. Sport has also increased my confidence enormously as I sometimes play in front of a crowd. It is very nerve-wracking, however I always play to my best ability. In trampolining I represented Bolton Squad in the North West Regional Finals under 15s and won 1st place – this was a big success for me. This shows I am determined to get a good place and I am dedicated and committed to the chosen sport. I also enjoy spending time with friends and meeting new people.

In high school and college I was awarded the role for Vice Captain in the P.E department. The various responsibilities included the organisation of the team members, leadership, motivating fellow players, arranging the sports teams and representing the school. I worked closely with the 2nd Head of P.E and assisted the P.E department when they needed me. This showed that I have a lot of confidence and maturity. I had to take on a big responsibility by meeting the task deadline and to show my leadership skills. Even though I am extreamly fond of photography and graphic design I am also an outstanding athlete and am very passionate about sport.
